SPEED OF LIFE!

Thanks for visiting! SPEED OF LIFE is an American Library Association Notable Children's Books Nominee! Available at bookstores, Amazon and Indies! I poured many years and my whole heart into this novel, so I'm beyond thrilled that the New York Times Book Review says it's "funny, perceptive and moving...I laughed out loud and I teared up while reading this novel. I will eagerly place it on my daughter's bookshelf so that she, like Sofia, can find her own resilience and voice in our painful, joyful, speeding world.” The New York Post said it's "Required Reading." It has also received starred reviews in KirkusPublishers WeeklySchool Library Journal and Booklist. May I read you the first page? Here you go! I talk about it on TV too: NY1 and Twin Cities Live. And on NPR radio with Ann Fisher of WOSU. And yes, I'm hoping you'll snag a copy!

Interested in an Author Visit? I *love* visiting schools in person and by Skype. I'll be at book festivals in Chappaqua, Warwick, and Princeton. Chautauqua, end of July. Also at the New York Society Library on Nov 9. And at ALA today...

I've been "Dear Carol" at Girls' Life since 1994, and SPEED OF  LIFE is inspired in part by the letters girls write to me. There's even a Dear Kate! It's also inspired by my losing my own dad when I was too young to bear it... But SPEED is not just about grief, it's about first love and blending families. Set in NYC, Westchester and Spain, it will soon be an audiobook.

The first of my 16 books, GIRLTALK: All the Stuff Your Sister Never Told You, came out in a dozen languages. AVA AND PIP, AVA AND TACO CAT, and AVA XOX are also now in paperback. They're the diaries of a fifth grade "word nerd" with a passion for palindromes. The New York Times says AVA AND PIP is "a love letter to language" and "perfectly captures the complexities of sisterhood." Here's a quick video about the series, which is for ages 8 to 12. Indies and Amazon.

Poke around to watch helpful videos, read personal essays, and guess who's who on my fun Hall of Fame photos. Find me on my Facebook page, and  Twitter or Instagram. For the books, check out libraries, or buy Indie or Amazon. In School Library Journal, you can read Five Things I've Learned From Being an Advice Columnist.

More: "Skype Moment of the Week" and "Publishers Weekly Photo of the Day"! I give talks en español and français too. Sí Sí Sí! Oui oui oui!

What else? Husband Rob Ackerman is a playwright and does props for SNL. Daughter Lizzi has a pancake business, Birch Benders, and was on the Today Show and in HuffPo. Daughter Emme, whose name is a palindrome, is an archivist for NBC. And we all love our old rescue cat Mike.
